The chapels

The chapel of the "Madonna della ferita", now the Chapel of the SS. Sacramento (lateral to the right aisle), was built thanks to a prestigious commission.

It was in fact Caterina Sforza, fervent devotee of the cult of that image, who asked the architect Pace di Maso del Bambase, the same one who masterfully built the oratory of San Sebastiano, to carry out the construction that began in 1490.

The chapel of the Madonna del Fuoco (lateral to the left nave) was built between 1619 and 1636 on a project by the architect and monk from Faenza Domenico Paganelli. It was Bishop Cesare Bartolelli who laid the first stone of what was to be the definitive and prestigious home of the image of the miracle. Its octagonal dome was frescoed by Carlo Cignani with a twenty-year commitment that blossomed into a masterpiece in 1706.
