City Court

City Court

Since 1968, the building has been the seat of the Tribunal and of the judicial offices. With the notice of 1937 the Ministry of Public Works, for the direct interest of the Head of State, tried to give Forlì a permanent seat for the whole judicial organization. Two entire blocks of very old buildings were demolished and Via Bagnola was completely obliterated to imitate the monumentality imposed by Piacentini with the City Court in Milan.
The two-colour effect of the porphyry basement and the Lombardy stone cladding were meant to contrast with the austere ancient terracotta of the bell tower and the apse of the monumental complex of S. Mercuriale, but due to difficulties caused by the war, it was replaced by a simple plaster and travertine basement. The use of poor materials, however, seemed to be proposed even in the design of the interior as a general devaluation of the austerity and monumentality of the entire building. The works were interrupted by the events of the war, leaving a huge building lacking any kind of finish.
