Numai Tower and Palace

Numai Tower and Palace

The house-tower belonged to the Ghibelline Numai family and it's the only one surviving among the many built in the city. The tower visible today is the result of a massive restoration.
The building, built between the 14th and 15th centuries, was widely restored a century later by Pino Numai.
The beautiful portal, a Renaissance 'diamond', stands out on the austere facade in local terracotta, and the lower part of it has the typical escarpment of medieval printing.
Inside the tower you can find an elegant fifteenth-century courtyard with a portico on three sides, composed of stone columns and Corinthian capitals.
You can still see some traces of the previous fourteenth-century portico, which came to light after recent restoration. Noteworthy are some rooms on the ground floor, variously vaulted and with Numai coats of arms.
The Numai Tower, the only one of the many towers built to defend the ancient and noble houses of Forlì, is connected to the palace by an underground passage.
