Church of San Filippo Neri

Church of San Filippo Neri

In Via Giorgina Saffi 6 stands the Church of San Filippo Neri (17th century), a prestigious baroque monument. In 1780 it underwent the transformations that gave it its present shape. The large façade in terracotta, recently restored, is characterized by pilaster strips of a giant order and by two baroque trusses in the upper part. The interior is in the shape of a Latin cross, with two chapels on each side. The frescoes of the vault and of the sides of the Cappella Maggiore were painted by Flaminio Minozzi and Giuseppe Marchetti in the 18th century; at the top the "Glory of San Filippo Neri", on the left the "Ecstasy" and on the right the "Death of the Saint". At the center of the dome is a valuable trompe-l'oeil of the lantern.
