Church of Suffragio

Church of Suffragio

The church was built between 1723 and 1748 by architect Fra’ Giuseppe Antonio Soratini. The elliptical-plan interior opens up on a space divided by pillars and columns surmounted by a drum and a vault on top of it, which was reconstructed in 1784 after an earthquake. The central medallion fresco is the Allegory of Faith by Venetian Jacopo Guarana, and perspective wall painting by Serafino Barozzi (1784) from Bologna. In the first chapel on the right there is a painting by Simone Campagnoli: St. Anthony of Padua before the Virgin. Above the high altar you can see the artwork The Virgin meets the Saints by Filippo Pasquali; in the left chapels there are paintings by Antonio Fanzaresi and a Nativity of the Virgin by Giuseppe Marchetti. The façade was completed by Cesare Bazzani (1931-1933).
