A story told through more than 200 photographs depicting her private life and her professional and civic commitment: from October 18, 2025, to January 11, 2026, the great Sicilian photographer Letizia Battaglia will be at the Museo Civico San Domenico in Forlì with an exhibition presented for the first time in Italy.

Conceived and produced by CAMERA – Italian Center for Photography and the Jeu de Paume museum in Paris, in collaboration with the Letizia Battaglia Archive, the exhibition is organized by the Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì and the Municipality of Forlì.
LETIZIA BATTAGLIA. The Work: 1970-2020, curated by Walter Guadagnini, explores Letizia Battaglia's entire creative journey through photographs, books, newspapers, and magazines from her archive, bearing witness to the variety of her interests and the continuity of her civic commitment.

Presented in 2024 at the Jeu de Paume in Tours and at the Rencontres d'Arles international festival in 2025, the project has been updated and enriched for the Forlì stage to include some unpublished photographs, 22 magazines with which the photographer collaborated and, in some cases, was also the founder and editor, as well as a documentary film about her life.

The extraordinary legacy of her work and life is now part of the history of photography and Italian society, and the San Domenico Civic Museum is proud to reconstruct and bring back to the public the unforgettable shots of this rigorous artist.

Winner of the prestigious “W. Eugene Smith” humanist photography award in 1985, Letizia Battaglia opened herself up to the world – from the Soviet Union to the United States, from Turkey to Iceland – while remaining true to her own poetics, which she herself describes in these terms: 'Photography becomes, or rather, is life told: I slip into a photograph that is the world, that is, I become the world and the world becomes me'.
